We had just left Kenosha. Our trip was delayed by a buddy whom said would be joining us. We fixed a couple of things, got some groceries, beer, and then waited to hear from my buddy to see when he'd be showing up. We were then going to either leave in the dark later or hit the town for some of the November night life... ha ha... Well, I finally called him to see how long it would be till he got here and he said that he was almost home and would not be coming at all!? I little irritated I asked him when he was planning to tell us this and asked why he didn't call when he made this decision. Oh well, we left anyway and took off for Chicago in the dark. When we left the marina the sun was just dropping off the horizon. It was light when we were motoring out... Even still it was a great trip!
Arriving in Chicago can't see much...
We had just arrived inside the breakwall right next to Lake Shore drive and got a call from my dad asking where we were.
Chicago's Navy Pier.
This is Chicago's Navy Pier on November 3rd 2007 at about 8:00 pm. We had just taken a ride down the lake from our slip in Kenosha Wisconsin.
Waking up in Du Sable Harbor Chicago
I had just gotten up from bed the morning of November 3rd 2007. We were taking a trip from our home port to where we were planning to store it for the winter. Reason we waited so long to put her away was that I was waiting for my wife to give birth to my son!
Waiting for the bridge to go up...
We were sitting here for about 30 minutes waiting for the bridge to go up. We called on the radio, we tried the phone, we couldn't reach anyone at all. Finally we saw an Amtrak train come halfway across the bridge and then goes back. Then the bridge finally went up.
What a beautiful day in November!
Boy, what a beautiful day in November! The water, weather, and ride were just great! Just look at how gorgeous the river was.
Another look at the Chicago River
Here's another view of the Chicago river. You know, I never knew that there were so many inlets on the river.
River trip running near Lockport Lock
Here we were running near the lockport lock. I was standing on the gunnel just taking in how smooth the ride was. As I pan down, you can see the water discharge from the air conditioners inside the boat as well as the exhaust from the engine and the generator which was running. Then my sister was trying to remember the name of a singer for that song. My buddy made a smart remark about it which neither my sister or I caught onto.
1998 Bayliner 4085 Ass Heavy
The back of the boat was sitting really low because the straps were in the wrong place. And when they were starting to lifting it, the water in the bilge was pumping out from the back.
1998 Bayliner 4085 Balanced Good
Here is our 1998 Bayliner 4085 coming out of the water for the 2007-2008 winter. After seeing that Carver 55 crashing nose first into the water pictures into the Mediterranean this past spring with the crane made me worry. Every serious boater saw that one in their email a bunch of times. Just imagine if you were the one that had just inked the deal on that one.
Backing my Bayliner 4085 into the warehouse
Here the guys are backing my boat into the warehouse for the winter storage in 2007. This is one heavy duty trailer. The tires are solid rubber so they never go flat.
1998 Bayliner 4085 on Hydraulic trailer moving into building
Here they were manuevering it to get it into the building.
1998 Bayliner 4085 Winter Parking Spot
A sad day, my boat finally makes it to it's parking spot for the next 5 months. I haven't seen it since and it's been 2.5 months already...
Layup 2007 Trip to Chicago
Can't see much of what is out there, luckily the radar was working great! There were only a few crafts out on the water this evening.
